Nestled along the scenic Thermal Explorer Highway in Reporoa, New Zealand, Reporoa Valley Traders & Awaken Cafe is a delightful hideaway that promises to revive your spirits and invigorate your taste buds. From the moment you see the unassuming sign pointing you toward this local gem, you’ll want to follow it—all roads lead to exceptional coffee and irresistible treats.

The atmosphere inside the Awaken Cafe feels like a warm embrace, with cozy armchairs and rustic decor setting the stage for a leisurely dining experience. It’s a quirky blend of a casual cafe and a country store, making it a perfect spot for both relaxation and a bit of curious shopping. Friendly staff greets every visitor with genuine smiles, enhancing the inviting ambiance. This is more than just a stop for a meal; it’s a community hub where locals gather, and you’re sure to feel right at home.

Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: the menu. Customers rave about their sensational cakes and pies, with highlights including a rich and savory chicken cranberry brie pie that has left many craving more. The ginger slice, celebrated for its perfect blend of spicy and sweet, and the bacon and egg slab, hearty enough to fill even the most ravenous of appetites, add to the charm. Adelle Offerman, one satisfied patron, reflects on her experience, expressing disbelief at the deliciousness she found here, particularly the chicken pie and the decadently moist carrot cake that had her returning for more.

For coffee lovers, the cafe serves up fabulous brews in proper mugs, creating a nostalgic yet sophisticated coffee experience. Elizabeth Chart captures this well in her review, echoing the ease and comfort of sipping hot coffee while indulging in thick, rich caramel slices—so tempting that sharing might just prove to be too difficult! Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely brunch or an afternoon pick-me-up, Awaken Cafe's food cabinet is a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

The cafe is not just about food; it intertwines the charm of a local hardware store, making it a unique stopping point for both sustenance and shopping. Michelle Ruebe praises the variety of offerings, from postal services to an array of homemade treats, truly a one-stop-shop for travelers and locals alike.

So whether you’re driving through Reporoa or intentionally seeking out a hidden gem, make your way to Reporoa Valley Traders & Awaken Cafe. With its mouth-watering menu, inviting atmosphere, and the kind of friendly service that warms the heart, this cafe is a must-visit. It's not just a meal; it's a memorable experience waiting to be savored.

As you are driving down the Thermal Explorer Highway there’s an unassuming sign for a turn off for a ‘cafe’, you will not regret following this sign to the Awaken Cafe! The cakes and pies are sensational, and the service is just as good. I didn’t expect to find a chicken pie this good or a carrot cake I went back for more of a few days later. Whether this is on your route or you have to go out of your way to get here, it is well worth it!

Absolutely love independent, local, quirky cafes like this. Fab hot coffee in proper mugs and cakes and caramel slices so thick it's like you should share them (but will you?!?!!!) Soft armchairs and a sofa or tables and chairs with rustic decor and a hardware store all together! Lovely friendly service. Love it.

Loved this place. Had great coffee, a delicious sandwich, and bought a new drink bottle. Coolest of all - the owner makes greeting cards, and they are an NZ Post agent - so I got to post a card to my son. It's in the letterbox now. He'll see it when he gets home from school. What an unexpectedly awesome thing to get to do. I'd go back just for the coffee and cards. A really lovely experience and great customer service.

Saw the sign on the highway on our way to Rotorua in the hopes of finding a nice place to stop for a cuppa and a slice of cake. But we weren’t prepared for just how delightful this little place would be. The Chicken, Cranberry and Brie pie was so good we had to order another. The coffee was great, so too the carrot cake. All home made! The staff were very friendly, and we will be going out of our way to return.
